About Us

Originally formed in 1996 Contemporary Vision Opticians was taken over by Optometrist Colin Murphy in May 2001. Since then significant investment in the practice has resulted in sustained growth.

We provide a friendly, personal and professional service. Our clients come first and many drop in just to say hello when passing. We have a well equipped consulting room to ensure comprehensive eye exminations and our range of around 500 frames means we can cater for all tastes and budgets.

Colin Murphy BSc Hons(MCOptom) Optometrist/Owner

Colin trained at UMIST (Manchester) from 1981 to 1984 and then spent his pre-registration year at St Mary's Hospital Colchester. He qualified and became a member of the British College of Optometrists in 1985. He then worked at various practices in Essex and Suffolk before moving to Zimbabwe in 1989. This proved a useful and enlightening experience. In 1991 he returned to the UK and spent the next ten years gaining further experience in both independent and large multiple opticians. In May 2001 he bought Contemporary Vision Opticians. This has given him the freedom to practice the way he wants, with the right equipment and with time to spend with his clients.
